Positron emission Tomography is hybrid imaging which combines nuclear positron imaging and CT imaging to give anatomic and functional information. Whole body imaging is done to do complete staging of cancer and identify metastatic cancer spread. PET CT is also used in non cancer purposes in cardiology and neurology.
Gamma Camera(SPECT):
Gamma camera based planar (2D) and SPECT (3D) imaging using low energy safe radiopharmceuticals have enabled optimal evaluation of specific organ functions of the body like kidney function or cardiac blood flow to coronary arteries or lung ventilation etc. SPECT (Single photon emission computerized tomography) enables accurate diagnosis of cardiac, brain and musculoskeletal conditions.
